Shine & Go Express Carwash
A busy downtown street corner was chosen for the location of the Shine & Go Express Wash. Although the lot was in an ideal location, it provided many design challenges that needed to be met to provide the owner with a profitable and long lasting business. The close proximity to the coast required a building material that would withstand strong winds rolling in off the ocean. Already existing neighboring businesses required that the building site was both attractive and functional. A total masonry design was chosen for this building. The building was designed larger than usual to ensure that any overspray was contained inside, and did not affect the neighing hotels and businesses. A total of approximately 20,000 block were used in this 30 foot tall structure. Brick was chosen with a colored mortar as an accent to the block and stucco panels. This design helped blend the building with neighboring businesses, providing an aesthetically pleasing palate with the durability and long-lasting strength of masonry. During construction, a high lift self-consolidating masonry grout was used which allowed the masons to double the height of their lifts when filling the block cells. The fill mix was also designed to reduce the need for consolidation allowing less manpower to be used during pumping. The addition of these construction methods saved the owner both time and money. This combination of block, brick, and stucco has provided the owner with a durable building that is both strong and aesthetically pleasing. Masonry is the construction material of choice for challenging locations and harsh condition. |
