Gainesville Walmart
The city of Gainesville held the line on an architectural statement by refusing to say “Big Box!!” The architects developed one of the most pleasing big box stores I had seen in some time, combining colored CMU, split face, and the Quik-Brik block that creates a 4x16 face brick appearance that most of those entering probably think is actually a clay masonry unit. The project consisted of split face and smooth colored units and two blends of the Quik-Brik CMU. The combination of colors along with a pleasing articulation on all faces of the store scaled this “big box” down to an approachable and colorfully pleasing retail establishment. |
